Public Service
Key Benefits
- Public Service provides our reason to have frequencies allocated.
- Public Service allows us to "give back" some of what we get.
- Public Service is helping others who need it.
Capabilities
WASH supports the Amateur Radio Service goal of providing quality public service, typically in the form of communications support to other public service and charitable organizations. Although we occasionally coordinate with ARES and RACES Emergency Service organizations, our primary goal is to service support requests with volunteers from within the WASH membership. All members are welcome and encouraged to support our public service activities.

09/04/2006 - American Heart Association 5K Classic
Members of WACOM and WASH provided radio communications and coordination assistance for the American Heart Association Annual Labor Day 5K Classic in Washington, PA. Two races took place—a walking race and a running race—starting 15 minutes apart. The official time was kept at the finish line and linked to the starting line via amateur radio using the K3PSP repeater on 146.79 MHz. Nearly 300 runners and walkers participated.
Michael (KB3NVL) and Anthony (KB3NVM) served in their first public service event, posted at the Shop 'n Save location overlooking Jefferson Ave. More Pictures
