The Portable "Randy Rollup" J-Pole

We got to put the portable "Randy Rollup" J-Pole in action this past weekend. It made it’s first transmission on Mount Washington. A heck of a first run, eh? Ok, I tried it quickly at the campground to make sure everything was in order first, but the other one sounded more dramatic.

Brian and I were based at the mid-station point of Mt. Washington for the Hike for the Cure. We have had comms problems in the past because it’s sort of in the bowl of Tuckerman’s Ravine. This year, we had STELLAR reviews on the antenna. Crystal clear comms from the mid-station! The organizer of the Hike was so impressed that he’s going to look for a few roll-ups to have as spares and for the summit crew next year.
